I am writing a book about the process of colonizing Mars.

NASA currently as of this writing does not have a plan or policy of occupying any planet long term.

Colonizing Mars will be the most incredible achievement mankind will ever achieve. In the process we will discover an entirely new planet that has an incredible geologic past and resources that are mind-boggling.

Mars is virtually another Earth. It has all the chemicals and resources the Earth has.

In Mar’s history water flowed and created canyons and river valleys that are bigger than any on Earth. Mountains on Mars are taller than any mountain on Earth. There was an atmosphere and warmer temperatures.

Mars has polar caps with miles of co2 and water. In the summer these caps undergo winds over 400mph and huge amounts of co2 and water evaporate. It might be possible to ski on these ice mountains.

The most exciting and important reason to colonize Mars is because there may have been life on Mars and some form of life may exist today.

In my opinion discovering this life is the most exciting exploration we can take. Whatever the result of that exploration this search will have enormous impact on our perception of our place in the universe.

There is some talk and information that NASA has distributed talking about the development of a moonbase.

I have seen numerous fictional accounts of colonizing Mars. None of these go in detail about how to actually go about building a colony in a place as alien as Mars. All of them seem to assume that somehow it’s easy to do this.

It may not be obvious that building a colony in space or on a planet is not the same as explorers arriving on the shores of some continent and colonizing.

Even Elon Musk when discussing the colonization of Mars usually comes up short on the details.

Writing this book is not only a strategy and step by step guide of what to do and what we need but also a validation that such a goal is achievable and not cost prohibitive.

In this book I hope to also give the reader the same excitement I have about what we will achieve and the benefits of exploring a new planet and creating a self-sustaining independent home for humans.

I believe this is a valuable book to write because there is very little other written information on the motivations for changing our space policy, what our space policy should be and why.

The book will cover:

Why to colonize Mars vs other goals for our space program

How the universe is designed to promote life, what limits physics places on life and our ability to explore the universe

Is there life on Mars and how to find it

The difference of my plan to others

The missions in detail with manifests

The infrastructure to be deployed

The sites on Mars

The colonization crew and growth of the colony, births and deaths

Habitats and making Mars livable and fun

Food, water and air

Minerals, resources and processes of industrialization

3d printers, warehouses, robots

Safety, health care, death, security, reliability.

The kinds of robots

Explosives, communications, data processing, networking

The list of everything

AI and autonomous robots

And more

I expect to finish the book near the end of 2024.

"People ask me what I do in the winter when there's no baseball. I'll tell you what I do. I stare out the window and wait for spring."
